Healing through Play

Tayla is a child and adolescent therapist that uses Play Therapy with children ages 2-12 years. Specializing in the Child Centered Play Therapy model.

Child Centered Play Therapy is used with children ages 2-12 but can be used with teens and adults too. Play is the primary way in which children communicate.  In the CCPT model your child gets to express and process their experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors without having to use words, in a safe environment with a caring and present therapist.

The Child Centered Play Therapy model is an evidence-based practice with over 100 years of research. CCPT is proven to work with children experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relational disorders.

Child Centered Play Therapy is a non-directive approach that gives your child the time they need to develop a safe and caring relationship with the therapist. When your child develops trust with the therapist and feels safe expressing their true self that is when healing and change can occur. The relationship between the child and therapist is the most important aspect of the Child Centered approach. Without the relationship, no change can happen.

The therapist will use the following skills in the Play Therapy sessions. The therapist will use verbal reflective responses such as reflecting feelings and content, tracking your child’s behavior, using choice giving, giving encouragement, and using limit setting. These skills we be taught to parents as well.

There are Four universal outcomes to this model; Increased self-esteem (child builds a stronger sense of self-worth and confidence), increased emotional vocabulary (child becomes better able to express their feelings and communicate their needs), increased emotional regulation (child develops the ability to manage their emotions more effectively, reducing outbursts and improving overall behavior), and increased worldview (child gains a broader perspective, understanding their actions have consequences, and how they relate to others).
